The paperback of The Inheritors has gone to the printer, so it should be available in about two weeks direct from Fandemonium.

Inheritors Is Out!

Feb. 14th, 2013 | 05:06 pm

The Inheritors is now available on Amazon US and will be filtering to other sites as they get it listed!  This means that the paperback will follow in two to three weeks depending on the printer's schedule; in the past, people have found it easier to order directly from Fandemonium or through a local bookstore, as not all the big bookstores have carried it.

Thank you all for coming with us on this (longer-than-anticipated) journey!  I appreciate everyone's patience with the vagaries of MGM and tie-in work in general, and I very much hope you find the ending as satisfying to read as we did to write.

Legacy Update - Inheritors

Feb. 9th, 2013 | 09:55 am

We've received and returned the final MGM edits on Inheritors, and are just waiting for MGM's final approval before Fandemonium can  release the book. The ebook will go live as soon as that approval is received (and we all hope that will be soon!) and print books will be available for order approximately 2 weeks after that - the delay occurs because the physical books can't be printed until the final approval is received, and it takes about that long to produce the book.

It's been a long, sometimes strange, and occasionally frustrating trip, but I'm glad I stuck around.  I hope you all will be, too!

Inheritors Update

Nov. 3rd, 2012 | 10:02 am

I was asked recently about the status of Inheritors, and I figured I should probably make it a general update.  Amy, Jo, and I have turned the finished manuscript over to Fandemonium, where it's going through the first edit.  First word from the editor is that she doesn't expect to have any big changes, so I'm hoping we'll have just the usual continuity check (thank God for editors!) and tweaking and tightening.  We should see that back in a week or two, and should be able to turn it around pretty quickly.  After that, it goes to MGM for their approval.  That's always been the sticking point in the past, though with the sale to Lionsgate having gone through, they've been faster with their review and comments.  Once that first review is done, the ms. comes back to us to make the requested changes.  We'll make those changes as quickly as we can, and in the previous books, the changes were minor and we've been able to turn the ms. around in a couple of days - this is largely due, I think, to working closely with our editor at Fandemonium to make sure we're within MGM's guidelines to begin with.  Then the ms. goes back to MGM for final approvals, which include not only the ms. but the final versions of the cover art and cover blurbs.  Once their approval is received, the ebook can go live within a couple of days, and the paperback will appear in a couple of weeks, the difference being the time it takes to print the physical book.   In theory, if everything goes well, the book could be out in December, but I'm guessing it's more likely to be January.  I hope I'm wrong there!

We’re finishing up Inheritors, in the middle of the final action sequence, so I’ve been spending a bit of time on Gateworld and with my DVDs, refreshing my memory of various things.  In general, I’m a really visual writer — I imagine a story in images first, and then translate that to words — so it’s been really important throughout the Legacy series to collect images of my favorite characters.  And not just the characters, but characters doing particular things or at particular moments, so that I have the image of how the actors played that moment ready to hand.

Cut for photos and very small spoilersCollapse )

Legacy Update

May. 22nd, 2012 | 10:21 am

At last, some solid news on the next books in the Legacy series!  The really good news is that Book 4, The Furies, (which was titled The Avengers until a movie with the same name unaccountably appeared) will be released June 28.  This is a solid deadline at last:  all the MGM approvals are in place, Jo will receive the galleys this week, and the book will be off to the printer as soon as she can turn them around.

And we have a tentative schedule for the final two books.  Book 5, Secrets, is scheduled for August 7, and Book 6, The Inheritors, is scheduled for November 1.  Secrets and Inheritors both still need to go through the MGM approval process, which is always unpredictable, but we have every intention - we being me, Jo, Amy, and Fandemonium - of having the series finished before Christmas.
