Susannah Sinard and I were at the Fandemonium table for the weekend, signing books and talking to fans — and if you haven’t picked up her SG-1 novel, The Hall of the Two Truths, I highly recommend it. The wonderful dealers at Wrinkle in Time brought a ton of books for sale, so we were kept busy — though Susannah and I both managed to sneak off to hear a few talks.
And then there was… this.
I’m still not entirely clear what happened — I was blamelessly working the table, I swear! Apparently during David Hewlett’s talk, someone asked him about the Legacy series. He didn’t know it existed, or even that there were tie-in novels, and said something about were any of the books here, or any of the authors — and the next thing I knew, Shannon Stahl came running out of the hall, swept up my copies of Legacy, and dragged me toward the Q&A mics. Where she proceeded to introduce me as one of the authors of the books that they were just talking about.
Hewlett — who had been joined by David Nykl — then invited me up on stage to explain what the books were, asked great questions, and basically plugged the novels for us. They both flipped through books looking for their characters, and of course Nykl found Dr. Zelenka immediately, but Hewlett couldn’t find Dr. McKay because he had one of the ones in which Rodney[had a spoilery thing happen to him.]had been turned into a Wraith and believed he was Quicksilver
Some more pics! David Nykl finds a Zelenka scene and proceeds to read it in character! At the same time, David Hewlett can't find anybody but Zelenka.
I carefully point out to David Hewlett that Dr. McKay did make the book's cover.
It was an astonishing experience, made possible by two extremely gracious (and generous) actors, and I am pleased to report that I only squeaked and flailed after I left the stage. I also have to thank Shannon Stahl for not only making it happen, but for the photos as well.
